Avon Lake is set to increase the monthly payment of its Parks and Recreation consultant by $500 for a four-month period, specifically for services related to the total solar eclipse expected in April. This additional payment will be on top of an existing contract for professional services that does not exceed $2,500 per month.
According to the Avon Lake City Council agenda for its January 22 meeting, the council's amendment to its agreement with consultant Ronald Warner would be effective from January 1 through April 30.
The current agreement entails Warner acting as a liaison to external nonprofit organizations, aiding the Parks and Recreation Department in securing sponsorships, and assisting with large-scale programs and events. Warner is required to be available for a minimum of 25 hours per month to perform these consulting services.
As per the Avon Lake City Council agenda for its January 22 meeting, the new services would include Warner acting as a liaison to local businesses during this four-month period. He would also ensure that local businesses are aware of the forthcoming eclipse and its potential impact on their operations. Additionally, he would promote and sell sponsorship opportunities with the city for events leading up to and including the eclipse watch party. His responsibilities would also extend to planning, coordinating, managing, and promoting the Beach Park Station Stop 65 pre-eclipse event scheduled on Sunday, April 7.
