The Westlake City Council has approved a $130,000 increase to a $2.38 million contract for a waterline project, the additional cost arising from unforeseen construction conditions. The recipient of these additional funds will be Fechko Excavating.
According to the Westlake City Council agenda for its Jan. 4 meeting, the contract amendment pertains to work on the Porter Road and Lansing Drive waterline replacement and roadway rehabilitation project.
The recommendation for this contract amendment came from Mayor Dennis Clough and Engineering Director James J. Smolik, as stated in the same Westlake City Council agenda.
As per a list of 2023 construction projects on the city's website, the project includes the installation of a new 8-inch water main and repairs to the sanitary and storm sewer systems on Porter Road, extending from Center Ridge Rd south to the south corporation line, and Lansing Drive, from Porter Road to the western corporation line. Necessary eliminations of roadside ditches are also included in this project. Upon completion of the water and sewer line work, resurfacing will be carried out on the affected roadways.
