Seniors aged 55 and older are being offered an opportunity to learn about the forthcoming total solar eclipse from a retired NASA education officer at a Senior Lunch and Learn event. The lunch will be provided free of charge, with eclipse glasses also being made available for up to 50 registrants.
According to a release by the Avon Lake Recreation Department, Lynn Bondurant, who previously served as an education officer for NASA's Glenn Research Center, will share insights on why solar eclipses occur, what we have learned from them, and how they can be safely observed.
The Senior Lunch and Learn is scheduled to take place from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Old Firehouse Community Center located at 100 Avon Belden Road in Avon Lake. The same release by the Avon Lake Recreation Department states that space is limited to seniors aged 55 and older. Registration is required and can be completed by calling 440-930-4135. It should be noted that registration has already filled up for this month's event.
The total solar eclipse is set to occur on April 8. According to another release by the Avon Lake Recreation Department, the central line of the eclipse will pass directly through Avon Lake.
