The Rocky River Building Department has concluded over 2,400 commercial and residential inspections with a month still remaining in the year, according to Mayor Pamela Bobst's report to the City Council.
Mayor Bobst revealed that the city had nearly $102 million in added valuation over the past 11 months, as per the minutes of the Rocky River City Council's meeting on December 4. This is a significant increase from 2022 when the Building Department reported just under $70 million in added valuation from January through November.
According to Bobst, although Rocky River recorded fewer building permits overall, there was an increase in the number of commercial permits compared to the previous five years. This information was disclosed during the Rocky River City Council's meeting on December 4.
The Building Department closed 327 property maintenance inspections, with some still open and awaiting compliance, as stated in the minutes of the Rocky River City Council's meeting on December 4. Bobst also mentioned that there were 19 court cases involving maintenance inspections, marking a high for recent years. The department averaged 10 inspections per day combining property maintenance and building inspections.
Plan reviews have also contributed to the department's workload. There have been 131 reviews so far in 2023 compared to 107 in 2021, according to records from the Rocky River City Council's meeting on December 4.
