The Westlake Planning Commission has recommended approval of Echo Health's plans to add a greenhouse to its property. The commissioners voted in favor of the request at their Oct. 2 meeting. Echo Health, located at 810 Sharon Drive in Westlake, submitted a development plan request to install a greenhouse at its headquarters. The proposed location for the greenhouse is the southwest corner of the lot.
"We have recently started a garden club and have purchased a greenhouse to be installed at our headquarters," Echo Health stated in its development plan request.
While the proposed building materials for the greenhouse require modification, they are standard materials used for greenhouses and similar structures. The Planning Commission has previously approved these materials for other projects such as Gales Greenhouse and Rosewood Grill.
The property where Echo Health plans to add the greenhouse is in the Exclusive Industrial zone, which does not have minimum landscaping or lot coverage requirements. This allows for the greenhouse to be located within setbacks without affecting other usable areas outside.
To minimize the visibility of the greenhouse from offsite, there is a parking lot for Echo Health and a neighboring industrial building to the south, as well as a dumpster enclosure and retention basin to the west.
Overall, the Westlake Planning Commission supports Echo Health's plan to add a greenhouse to its property. The recommendation for approval will now move forward for further consideration and potential final approval by the city.
