Westlake City Council will vote on trading a short action rifle for four sound suppressors for the Police Department at its Oct. 19 meeting. The proposal, which involves the purchase of four Elite Iron Suppressors and the trade-in of an Accuracy International AX .308 Rifle, is aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Police Department.
Mayor Dennis Clough and Director of Purchasing Larry Surber Jr. have recommended the purchase of the suppressors from Tactical Assault Specialists. The suppressors are priced at $875 each, totaling $3,500. The trade-in value of the police department's rifle is also valued at $3,500.
The City Council meeting will take place on Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. in the Michael F. Killeen Council Chambers at Westlake City Hall.
If approved, this trade will provide the Westlake Police Department with advanced sound suppressors, which can help reduce the noise produced by firearms. This can be particularly beneficial in situations where officers need to maintain a stealthy approach or minimize the impact of gunfire on nearby residents.
The addition of sound suppressors can also enhance the safety and effectiveness of law enforcement operations. By reducing the noise signature of firearms, officers can potentially gain a tactical advantage and improve their situational awareness.
Furthermore, the trade-in of the Accuracy International AX .308 Rifle will allow the department to upgrade its arsenal with the suppressors, which are specifically designed to work with a variety of firearms.
The decision to trade a rifle for suppressors reflects the Westlake City Council's commitment to providing its police force with the necessary tools and equipment to carry out their duties effectively and safely. This trade not only supports the department's operational needs but also demonstrates the city's dedication to investing in the well-being of its residents.
The vote on this proposal will take place at the City Council meeting on Oct. 19. If approved, the Westlake Police Department will soon benefit from the acquisition of sound suppressors, further enhancing their capabilities in serving and protecting the community.
