Rocky River City School District Superintendent, Michael G. Shoaf, has declared his intention to retire on December 31, 2025. Shoaf has held the position of superintendent since 2007.

According to a Rocky River City School District news release, Shoaf informed the Board of Education that he will resign as superintendent on July 31, 2025. He plans to serve as a special advisor to the board until his retirement at the end of the year. In this advisory role, Shoaf's primary focus will be ensuring a seamless transition for his successor and collaborating with the board on comprehensive facilities planning.

Under Shoaf's stewardship, the school district has consistently ranked among the top ten districts statewide for the past twelve years, according to another Rocky River City School District news release. This includes six years within the top three positions. The district has also received four national Blue Ribbon Awards from the U.S. Department of Education during his tenure. Rocky River High School was honored in 2012 and 2020, while Kensington Intermediate School achieved this distinction in 2011 and 2023.

The board is expected to commence its search for a new superintendent later in 2024 with an aim to announce a successor within a year, as stated in a further Rocky River City School District news release.
