State Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur (R-Ashtabula) has announced the award of a Boating Education and Safety Grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Parks and Watercraft to the Ashtabula YMCA. The grant will provide funds for equipment and training to enhance water safety education.

According to a press release, Fowler Arthur stated, "This funding will ensure that instructors have the proper equipment and training they need for their students to have safe and enjoyable experiences out on the water."

The same press release revealed that the Ashtabula YMCA has been granted $12,727.61. These funds will be used to acquire essential equipment such as a new motor for a powerboat, replacement kayaks, stand-up paddleboards (SUPs), safety gear, and maintenance supplies. In addition, YMCA staff will participate in ODNR Paddling Instructor and Ohio Boating Education Course Instructor classes. This allocation underscores the division's commitment to boating education and safety efforts statewide, with nearly $225,000 dispersed among 10 programs.

According to The Ashtabula YMCA's website, the organization is committed to fostering community strength and unity through its impactful programs and partnerships. Its mission focuses on promoting holistic well-being and fostering positive change. The YMCA's local presence and global outreach empower individuals of all backgrounds to thrive by bridging gaps and making a meaningful impact in communities nationwide.
