State Rep. Daniel P. Troy (D-Willowick) has announced the approval of $541K in state funds to upgrade Lakeland College's mechanical ductwork. The upgrade is expected to improve energy efficiency and indoor climate conditions for students, following requests from the college.

"I am glad that we were able, at the request of the college, to transfer these funds for this essential upgrade of Lakeland's HVAC distribution systems," said Troy, according to Ohio House of Representatives. "It will certainly contribute to better energy efficiency and improved indoor climate conditions for students."

According to a press release, the Controlling Board approved Lakeland College's request for a $306K funding transfer. This transfer will facilitate the upgrade of mechanical ductwork from disposable duct board to permanent sheet metal duct, utilizing remaining funds from the completed Building C Roof Replacement project last spring.

The press release also revealed that the Controlling Board approved Lakeland's second transfer request of $235K. This approval was championed by Troy, who highlighted the health benefits of sheet metal over duct board, citing its superior durability, moisture resistance, and prevention of mold growth.

In another development reported in a press release, both the Ohio Controlling Board and state Rep. Jamie Callender (R-Concord), announced the release of over $94,000 to Lakeland Community College. These funds are earmarked for campus safety improvements including enhanced security at building entrances, installation of state-of-the-art security cameras, and acquisition of electronic marquee signs to ensure timely emergency notifications. The initiative aims at bolstering campus safety and facilitating rapid collaboration with local first responders.

Callender expressed his satisfaction with this development saying, "I’m pleased with the Controlling Board’s release of these funds. This approval will enhance the safety of our students and provide them greater peace of mind as they learn."
