In a collaborative initiative, Cuyahoga County and the City of Cleveland have proposed nominees, including Virginia "GiGi" Benjamin, for significant roles on the Gateway Economic Development Corporation of Greater Cleveland board. This move signifies a dedication to stimulating economic growth in the region. If confirmed, Benjamin, an experienced finance professional, will employ her expertise and cooperative approach to lead the board supervising Progressive Field and Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.

Chris Ronayne, an Executive at Cuyahoga County, praised Benjamin's qualifications for the role. He stated: "GiGi Benjamin is a civic leader with a deep understanding of finance and is uniquely prepared to take over the chairmanship of Gateway Economic Development Corporation of Greater Cleveland." He further added: "She will bring a rich blend of knowledge, energy, and a collaborative style to the board that will propel economic development in Downtown Cleveland and throughout our region." In addition to this praise for Benjamin, Ronayne also acknowledged the work of outgoing members saying: "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing members of the Gateway Board. Their dedicated service has been instrumental in steering the organization, and we appreciate their contributions."

The Gateway Economic Development Corporation of Greater Cleveland is defined on its website as a distinct 501(c)(3) non-profit Ohio corporation operating independently from other entities. Its board is appointed by elected officials from The City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. The corporation oversees ownership of Progressive Field and Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, leasing these facilities to the Cleveland Guardians and Cleveland Cavaliers respectively.

Cleveland Mayor Justin M. Bibb expressed optimism about future developments in a press release from Cuyahoga County. He said: "Cleveland is certainly a land on the rise, and there is so much potential for continued growth and positive change. With innovative and forward-thinking leaders like Virginia at the helm, there is a renewed commitment to the economic revival of Cleveland. I'm excited to see the transformation that her leadership will bring."

The same press release from Cuyahoga County revealed that Benjamin is poised to succeed Ken Silliman as the new chair, while Debbie Berry and Bryce Sylvester will replace Ron King and Matt Carroll on the Gateway Board. Executive Ronayne expressed gratitude to the outgoing members for their dedicated service, underlining their vital role in guiding the organization.

Cuyahoga County's nominees, Bryce Sylvester and Debbie Berry are set to join the Gateway Board according to another announcement from Cuyahoga County. They bring a diverse range of expertise to their roles. Sylvester, Senior Director of Site Strategies at Team NEO, provides extensive knowledge in economic and real estate development. Berry, Deputy Chief of Staff for Integrated Development, leads long-term strategies for regional development, housing, and civic initiatives.
