New leadership takes charge as Rocky River City School Board commences

The Rocky Rivers School Board commenced the year by inducting Kelly Frindt and Addie Olander during Monday's Organizational Meeting. Jessica Wilson was appointed as the President, while Kelly Frindt assumed the role of Vice President for the forthcoming term.

According to The Rocky River Board of Education's website, Jessica Wilson, now in her first term on the board since her election in November 2021, took over as Board President on January 3, 2023. A senior consultant at Hendy Avenue Consulting, Wilson has an extensive background in addressing challenges related to talent, academics, and strategy within public school districts across the country. She previously served in leadership roles at the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and holds degrees from Saint Louis University and Carnegie Mellon University.

The same source reveals that Kelly Rucker Frindt is also serving her first term on the Board of Education following her election in November 2023. With eight years of experience in various roles within Cleveland City Charter Schools before becoming a stay-at-home mom, Frindt brings a wealth of knowledge to her role. A native of Rocky River and a graduate of Marietta College (Class of 2003), she is dedicated to enhancing Rocky River's excellent schools and actively participates in community initiatives through her involvement with local PTAs and the Rocky River United Methodist Church.

Cleveland.com reports that The Rocky River Board of Education recently approved a critical $50,031,145 alternative tax budget for fiscal year 2024-2025. This move endorses financial planning and operations. Additionally, the board set schedules for Committee of the Whole meetings as well as business and finance meetings. They authorized a transfer of accounts, addressed investment policies, approved student fees for the upcoming school year, and granted Superintendent Michael Shoaf authority to enter agreements with educational service providers such as McGraw-Hill Education.

According to The Rocky River Board of Education's website, the board operates as a nonpartisan and nonsectarian body. It serves as a policy-making entity, representing Ohio and Rocky River citizens on public education matters. The Board conducts regular Committee-of-the-Whole and Business Meetings with set agendas that are open to the public, ensuring equal education opportunities. Furthermore, it holds Special and Emergency Meetings, as well as Executive Sessions when necessary, in compliance with state laws and regulations.
