The City of Avon has declared the continuation of its Hometown Heroes Banners program for another year, aiming to honor and remember those who have served in the Armed Forces. The city is currently open to receiving applications for these commemorative banners.

According to a press release on the City of Avon website, each banner will be dedicated to a specific service person who has passed away and has connections to Avon. The deadline for applications is set for Feb. 15 or until all slots are filled, after which a waitlist will be established.

The same press release states that the banners will feature the name, branch of service, and a military photo of the honoree. These banners are planned to be displayed from Memorial Day until Veteran's Day 2024 on Detroit Road west of Route 611, near Avon High School.

In terms of design specifications, the banners will be printed in full color on both sides and measure 30 inches wide by 84 inches high, according to the City of Avon's press release. After their second year on display, these banners will be returned to their respective owners.

The City requires applicants to provide a copy of the DD214 (military separation papers) as part of the application process.
