There were 59 Black students enrolled in Avon Lake City schools in the 2022-23 school year, a decrease from the 68 Black students in the previous school year, according to the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce.

Data showed that Avon Lake City welcomed 3,546 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, Black students made up 1.7% of the student body, making them the least represented ethnicity in the district.

Avon Lake City roughly covers seven schools within Lorain County and has its main office in Avon Lake.

Among the seven schools in Avon Lake City, Avon Lake High School recorded the highest enrollment of Black students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 22 students.

In 2022, Ohio saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:15, which is better than the national average of 1:16. This marks an improvement for the state, especially compared to 2016, when the ratio reached its decade-high at 16.1 students per teacher.

Despite the apparent improvement, this positive trend is overshadowed by a general decline in public school enrollments, which was accelerated by the pandemic. This decline, aligned with the steady number of teachers in the state over the last 10 years, has led to low student-to-teacher ratios.
