The Rocky River City Council recently conducted the first reading of an ordinance that would gradually increase the cost of services provided by the Cuyahoga County Board of Health.
According to the agenda for the Council's December 11 meeting, an ordinance was presented authorizing a two-year contract with the county Board of Health. This arrangement allows the Board to serve as Rocky River's Public Health District under Ohio law. The city has been contracting these services for many years, said City Councilmember John Shepherd.
In terms of pricing, the rates were established at $7.25 per capita for 2024 and $8 per capita for 2025, according to minutes from the City Council's December 4 meeting.
The minutes from this same meeting also detailed the array of services that the Board of Health provides for the city, its businesses, and its residents. These include immunizations at the Board of Health, outreach flu clinics, newborn home visits, lead poisoning prevention, medical handicap care, health improvement partnership program and indoor air quality program. Other services encompass food protection measures such as investigation of complaints, food recalls and inspections in restaurants. Environmental programs like stormwater surface water quality (E.coli referenced in budget hearings), watershed protection programs and recreational facilities are also included. Furthermore, pool inspections and larvae site application for mosquito control are part of their offerings.
