Timothy E. McMonagle | Ohio Department of Veterans Services
The Ohio Department of Veterans Services will induct Cleveland's Timothy McMonagle into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame for his service in the U.S. Army, assistance for other veterans, and time as a judge.
McMonagle, an Army combat medic veteran who served in Vietnam, was a second-year law student when he was drafted. After his service and finishing school, he worked for three years with Legal Aid before entering private practice.
He served an instrumental part in the presentation of the “Vietnam Experience,” an art show that displayed work by both Vietnam veterans and Vietnamese artists, according to his biography posted online by the Ohio Department of Veterans Services. He played a key role in organizing the 1988 Vietnam Veteran Reunion and parade, which drew a crowd of 20,000 to provide a belated and heartfelt “Welcome Home.”
In addition to his military and veteran advocacy work, McMonagle served as a judge for 28 years. He served as the presiding judge of the Mental Health Court and developed a now-required continuing legal education seminar to train attorneys on how to best represent individuals on the mental health docket. He also served several times on the Ohio Supreme Court.
McMonagle's dedication to his country, his fellow veterans, and his community has earned him a well-deserved place in the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.
