U.S. Army Air Corps and Air Force veteran Charles McGee will be inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame on Nov. 9, according to a Facebook post by the Ohio Department of Veterans Services. McGee, a Cleveland native, served in three wars and dedicated his life to public service.
McGee, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 102, had an extensive military career. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and later the Air Force, participating in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. McGee's remarkable service and contributions to the military earned him a place in the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.
Despite the interruption of his college years due to World War II, McGee returned to school and earned his degree at the age of 58. He received three honorary degrees for his work with social justice causes and his dedication to helping young people find purpose and service in their lives.
In addition to his military service, McGee was an ambassador of the Tuskegee Airmen Inc. for nearly 50 years. He played a crucial role in the founding of the organization and served two terms as its national president. McGee also dedicated his time to the Boy Scouts of America and the Commemorative Air Force Rise Above Squadron.
McGee's contributions to aviation and his commitment to service were recognized with numerous accolades. He received the Air Force Association's Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame. McGee and all the Tuskegee Airmen were also awarded the Congressional Gold Medal by President George W. Bush and the U.S. Congress.
The induction ceremony for Charles McGee into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame will take place on Nov. 9, honoring his remarkable military career and his lifelong dedication to public service.
