The Ohio Department of Veterans Services will induct the late Donald J. Keehan of Avon Lake, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame. Keehan, a Korean War veteran and former CEO of Advance Polymer Coatings, will be inducted posthumously on Nov. 9, according to a Facebook post by the Ohio Department of Veterans Services.
Keehan, a resident of Lorain County, was known for his support of military families, military transition issues, and the broader Northeast Ohio veterans' community. He played a significant role in providing housing for wounded warriors through his rental properties in northeast Ohio. Additionally, he supported the non-profit organization Young Men's Chance for Change, which aimed to help inner-city young men achieve better opportunities.
Not only did Keehan contribute to the veteran community, but he also made a significant impact on education. He provided over $1 million to St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio, where he served as a trustee. This generous donation allowed students to study innovative engineering and entrepreneurship.
Keehan's dedication to his family was also noteworthy. He was married to his wife, Arlene, for 63 years and together they raised six children. He was a loving grandfather to six grandchildren and a great-grandfather to two.
The Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities after their military service. Donald J. Keehan's induction into the Hall of Fame is a testament to his selfless service and dedication to improving the lives of others.
