Cleveland's Department of Community Development is seeking to secure a $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to address housing barriers and create more housing opportunities throughout the city.
According to a public notice from the website of Cleveland Mayor Justin M. Bibb, the Community Development Department plans to apply for the funding through the Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO Housing) program offered by HUD.
The proposed investments outlined in the application include implementing strategies from the Cleveland 2030: A Housing Equity Plan, launching housing navigators, and providing support to communities and developers looking to create successful housing models. The funding would also be used to invest in infrastructure that supports housing and create tools for the rehabilitation of existing housing.
To gather public input, written comments can be submitted to mwackers@clevelandohio.gov until Oct. 27. A draft of the grant application is available on the City of Cleveland's website.
By securing the $10 million grant, Cleveland aims to remove barriers and increase housing opportunities across the city, addressing the ongoing housing challenges faced by many residents.
