Avon Lake City Schools Superintendent Joelle Magyar will be presenting the district's pilot program on seat belts in school buses at the Ohio School Bus Safety Working Group meeting on Oct. 12. This discussion comes as part of the ongoing efforts to improve safety measures for students during their daily commute.

The Ohio School Bus Safety Working Group will convene in person at the Ohio Department of Public Safety in Columbus. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. According to a news release, the group aims to address concerns and implement strategies to enhance school bus safety across the state.

The formation of the working group was prompted by a tragic incident in August. An 11-year-old student from the Northwestern Local School District in Clark County lost his life when the school bus he was on was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine established the working group in response to this devastating accident.

Avon Lake City Schools Superintendent Joelle Magyar's presentation will focus specifically on the district's pilot program regarding seat belts in school buses. This program aims to evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of implementing seat belts on school buses to enhance student safety.
