Tri-C Famous: Beth Furraitti

#TriCFamous is a bimonthly feature that introduces readers to the people who make the College work while providing a sneak peek into their lives off campus.

Beth Furraitti joined Tri-C in 2005 as a systems operations supervisor at Corporate College® West. She took over as facilities manager at Corporate College East the following year and has been there ever since. She oversees everything from heating and cooling to painting and general maintenance, as well as setting up for the many events held at the facility. Learn more about Beth — including how one social media post helped expand her family tree — in this week’s Tri-C Famous!

1. Tell us about your pets.

I adopted my goofball cat, Gomer, from the Parma Animal Shelter in 2020. He’s named after a character on my all-time favorite program, The Andy Griffith Show. Gomer loves getting into mischief and doing all the things I don’t want him to do. He’s also very snuggly, but only with me. He doesn’t like anyone else, and he lets them know it.

2. What is your cellphone wallpaper?

A picture of my great-nephew Bryson, who’s 8. He told me to take a picture of him, so I did. He looked at it and said, “That’s a really good one. You should make it your wallpaper!” And he’s right, it is a good picture. Every time I see it, I smile.

3. Tell us about one of your hobbies.

I’m really interested in family history and tracing relatives. My mother’s parents were from Poland, and I’ve been able to create a family tree going back a couple generations. I actually found one relative by accident when I posted a photo to a Polish heritage Facebook page to see if someone could translate the writing on the back. One woman asked where I got the photo, because her father, grandmother and uncle were in it. Turns out her grandfather and my great-grandmother were brother and sister. It was an amazing discovery!
