A dozen graduating seniors will become part of Living Learning Community, attend CSU starting in Fall 2022
The energy was equal parts pep rally and family breakfast picnic on Monday morning, as the Campus International High School (CIHS) of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) celebrated the Class of 2022 for “College Decision Day” on Monday, May 2. Graduating seniors enjoyed a morning meal with CIHS faculty and staff before announcing plans for their future at their Cole Center nexus on the Cleveland State University campus.
“This day will never come again. And once it is gone, it is over. So, start using today with that mindset. Everyone's journey is different. You cannot be anyone else,” said Clarissa Russell, manager of regional admissions for Eastern Michigan University, a guest speaker at the event.
“Some of us have a straight line to where we want to go in our life, and some of us zigzag to where we are going in our travels,” Russell added. “Whatever the path holds, be open to your journey because it is yours. Every day is a new opportunity to create and build and grow.”
CIHS is the continuation of the highly successful Campus International School collaboration between CMSD and CSU, established in 2017. CIHS became a full grate 9-12 high school during the 2020-21 school year, completing the collaborative vision of CMSD and CSU to have a true K-16 program on-site.
CIHS is a fully authorized International Baccalaureate World School for the Middle Years and Diploma Programmes, offering only the IB Diploma Programme for students in grades 11 and 12. Through the IB and CIHS partnership with CSU, students have opportunity to earn college credits.
So far, 12 of the 55 graduating seniors in the CIHS Class of 2022 will be attending CSU in the upcoming Fall 2022 semester—many of them as a part of , which assists students with how to successfully navigate their way to (and through) higher education, as well as facilitate intentional and in-depth communication and understanding among students of diverse backgrounds and identities.
“What’s most important for me is that you know that we are all here for you, supporting you,” said Sarah Schneider, IB diploma program coordinator for CIHS. “Remember that whenever you’re faced with any sort of stress, look around this room, and at the people around you in this building. We are all here to make sure that you’re successful.”
