Cuyahoga Community College issued the following announcement on February 17.
The Jazz Gallery All-Stars — a special ensemble featuring many of the leading creative voices in jazz, who all cut their teeth on New York City's Jazz Gallery stage — will make their Cleveland debut at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) as part of the Tri-C Performing Arts season.
The performance takes place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in the auditorium at Tri-C's Metropolitan Campus in Cleveland. The event was rescheduled because of inclement weather.
The Jazz Gallery All-Stars lineup includes Miguel Zenón (alto saxophone), Joel Ross (vibraphone), Charles Altura (guitar), Aaron Parks (piano), Matt Brewer (upright bass), Kendrick Scott (drums) and Sachal Vasandani (voice).
"We look forward to presenting this exciting group of young musicians, each of whom is a bandleader in his or her own right," said Terri Pontremoli, director of Tri-C Performing Arts and Tri-C JazzFest.
The All-Stars were introduced at the JVC Jazz Festival's 15th anniversary celebration in 2010. The group showcased some of the finest young musicians, bandleaders and composers with serious connections to The Jazz Gallery, including founding member and trumpeter, Roy Hargrove, and MacArthur Fellow Miguel Zenón.
Founded in 1995 by Roy Hargrove, Dale Fitzgerald and Lezlie Harrison, The Jazz Gallery has become a key institution within New York City's jazz and creative music scene.
The venue celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2020 with a triumphant return by the All-Stars. Their first concert in January was a massive success; however, the rest of the tour was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tickets to the Cleveland show are $25 and can be purchased at jazzgallery.eventbrite.com. Free parking is available in Metro Campus Lot 5 off Woodland Avenue.
Masks are required for all audience members, staff and technical personnel.
